Frequently asked questions

What is DriveXA?

DriveXA is a driving score app designed to help drivers understand their habits, track trips, and improve safe driving performance over time.

How does the driving score work?

DriveXA combines your phone’s GPS with its motion sensors (accelerometer and gyroscope) to analyze the regularity, smoothness, turning comfort and anticipation of each trip, and gives every journey a clear driving score. Turns are checked with the gyroscope, so a bumpy road is not mistaken for a sharp turn.

Why does a trip have no score?

When the phone does not pick up the satellites during a trip (in a bag, a top case or in battery saver), it cannot measure the speed. The trip is kept, with distance and speeds estimated from the positions, but it is not scored: it is marked “GPS too weak”. On your next trip, keep the phone where it can see the sky.

Can DriveXA record my trips automatically?

Yes, with auto-tracking (Premium). You save one or more zones, for example home and work, each with a radius. When you leave a zone and drive above 15 km/h, a trip starts by itself; it ends when you arrive in a zone or when the vehicle has been stopped for 10 minutes.

  • Turn it on in Settings → Auto-tracking and add your zones.
  • Android asks to choose “Allow all the time” for location: auto-tracking needs it to work while the app is closed. A notification stays visible while it is on.
  • The optional “physical activity” permission lets Android tell DriveXA when you get into a vehicle, which saves battery.
  • Turn it off at any time in the same place.

What does Premium include?

A Premium account adds, on top of each trip’s score:

  • Auto-tracking with your own zones.
  • Statistics across all your trips.
  • The OBD-II connection to read your vehicle’s data.

Which OBD-II adapters work?

DriveXA works with Bluetooth adapters compatible with ELM327, the most common type of OBD-II dongle. Plug it into the car’s OBD-II port (usually under the dashboard), pair it in Android’s Bluetooth settings, then connect it from the app. Once connected you see live speed, throttle, engine load and temperature and battery voltage; the app also reads the vehicle identification number (VIN) to recognise the make. Vehicle readings are shown separately and do not change the driving score.

Is DriveXA available for driving schools?

Yes. DriveXA has a driving school mode so instructors can follow each learner’s progress between lessons:

  • The school administrator sets the school’s name and logo and invites instructors and learners by email, giving each learner a name.
  • Pending invitations stay visible until they are accepted, and can be cancelled. Staff can also remove a member who leaves the school.
  • Before a drive, the instructor chooses who is driving in “Trip for”: the trip is saved under the learner’s name and the score can be followed live.
  • Trips recorded by an instructor during a lesson appear in the learner’s history with a “Staff-assisted” badge.
  • Learners can also record their own drives between lessons and review them with their instructor.

Who can see my trips?

You, and if you belong to a driving school, its administrator and instructors as long as you are a member. Trips stored on your phone are encrypted, and on the server each account can read only its own data. We do not sell your data. The details are in the privacy policy.

How do I delete my account?

In the app: Profile → Delete my account. Without the app, see this page. Deletion is permanent and removes all your trips and data.
